Hall of Shame

Griffin Elevators (Lift Contractor for Newham Council)

Griffin Elevators were given the contract the install and maintain the lifts for all of Newham council's blocks in 2007, with the day they took over being the day my life was to become a permanent living hell, and the problems are still ongoing 15 years later.

As with most residential tower blocks, there will always be residents whose flats are located next to the lift shafts, so it is therefore essential that the lifts are maintained correctly to ensure that there are no noise disturbances leaking into these flats. This is clearly not

a problem for most lift contractors, as I have been in plenty of lifts that were whisper silent when I have used them, and indeed, before Griffin Elevators took over the maintenance of the lifts at David Lee Point, I never heard a peep out of them.

However, the absolute second the lifts Griffin Elevators renovated came back into service, they started making a whole repertoire of irritating noises that have constantly continued over the years, included, scraping, clacking, ticking and screeching noises, which have driven me insane during the day and kept me awake at night. There was one occasion when the noise was so bad that it sounded like a train was going to past every time the lifts were moving.  I obviously reported the noise to the concierge office an endless number of times who in turn reported the matter to Griffin, which was a totally pointless exercise, as the same thing would happen every time, i.e. they were would send out a couple of brainless goons who would take one look at the lifts, shrug their shoulders and then walk off. I have probably complained in excess of a thousand times to the concierge office, who would have reported this to Griffin, yet the same thing happened every single time and they point blank refuse to even acknowledge there is a problem let alone fix it.

Now admittedly, my biggest problem with regards to this matter is the total lack of cooperation I received from the  narcissitic head of lifts for Newham council, Geoff Williams, who was equally as difficult when it came to getting this resolved, but the simple fact of the matter is that I should never have needed to get him involved in the first place had Griffin simply fixed the problem when it was reported to the concierge office.

When it comes to keeping the lifts at David Lee Point inaudible within residents flats, they have a 100% failure rate, and I have it on good authority that this is a problem all over Newham, and is no doubt a problem in blocks they maintain with other councils they have contracts with as well.  The managing director of Griffin Elevators, Ian Griffin, is clearly an incompetent idiot, as he was asked to visit David Lee Point to investigate the matter in order to see what could be done to resolve it, which he apparently did on the 15th February 2023.  I had high hopes for this visit, after all, Ian Griffin is the managing director of one of the biggest lift companies in the UK, so he should theoretically be the high priest of lift installation and maintenance, yet the only thing that happened after his visit was that the lift noise got worse, and many months later, nothing has changed.

Griffin Elevators are a thoroughly incompetent company who don't just need sacking from their contract with Newham council, they need to be put out their misery full stop. You can read the full story of what I have had to put with since Griffin took over here.
